allahabad: rail tel corporation of india has finalised a deal with delhi based entertainment network india ltd, for fm transmission in mumbai. the rail tel will earn rs. 21.40 lakh per year as rental for mounting fm antenna and for leasing a 30 by 30 feet of space at the tower site for equipment, including power supply etc. this proposal was cleared by the rail tel corporation on thursday.
a k chopra, general manager, rail tel corporation (rtc), told the times news network here on friday that in future rtc and entertain network of india (eni), a unit of the times group, would have mutually beneficial tie-up for expanding the fm network. this deal was just a beginning, he said. the rtc was registered as a commercial body in september 2000. it will have an authorised capital of rs. 1000 crore in which the railway would own 51 per cent of the stakes. out of the remaining 49 per cent, railway public sector units would have equity of 15 per cent, leaving the rest for other investors, chopra informed. the corporation, he said, had developed an asset of rs. 278 crore. optical fibre cables had already been laid in a 33,000 km stretch and schemes were afoot to lay the same along the railway line to link all the metros when its full potential would be commercially exploited. the railways, he informed, has a network of 600 microwave towers which are 30 metres to 100 metres high across the country. a cabinet decision had already been taken to exploit the infrastructure commercially. the rail tel would offer fm facilities to small entrepreneurs as well where microwave space was available on towers, he added.
